Why Are Women So Disconnected From Their Bodies?
One thing that really drove my mom and me to open SHE and practice functional medicine was recognizing the overwhelming nature and B.S. of the wellness industry/market. It seems like its whole purpose is to add MORE stress to our plates as if we don’t have enough to deal with as women.
New workout fads, green juice detoxes, intermittent fasting, diet trends, and the list goes on – there is constant noise about what quick fix is right for your body. The health “gurus” that make BIG claims of being able to solve your problems, but never encourage you to get to know your body and reconnect with your intuition, is a huge red flag in my book.
Our intuition as women is a valuable tool that we rely on all the time. We call on it in times of stress, when we are protecting our children and ourselves, and when deciding if we should trust others or not. So why are women so disconnected from their bodies when it comes to health? I know I struggled so much after my daughter was born. I didn’t recognize myself or my body. Conventional medicine told me everything was normal while offering me birth control and antidepressants. The wellness industry wanted to sell me a million supplements and manifestation programs in order to “heal”.
So why do I believe women struggle with feeling good in their bodies?
#1 Women will always put the needs of others, their kids, and their families first. This is an amazing thing, but it does make it harder to listen to the signals your body is sending you to get well.
#2 As women we rush through life (guilty)! We have so much on our plates and the pressure of having to be perfect at everything influences the 50 different hormones circulating within us. Most of the time these hormones are trying to get your attention, but we ignore them in order to “make it through the day.”
#3 We have been trained to believe everyone else has the answer, so we go from doctor to doctor to have someone else say what’s going on. We are no longer familiar with how our bodies work, and we are given medication to suppress the way we feel (headaches, anxiety, cycle issues, etc.). We no longer ask what those symptoms are trying to tell us.
Re-educating women on how to optimize their health and well-being WITHOUT the additional stress and B.S. is our mission at SHE. We are dedicated to empowering women to reconnect with their bodies and intuition and break through their limiting beliefs in order to achieve lasting health and a higher quality of life!
